Naga City Day Tour
Explore Naga’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions on this one-day city tour. Choose to have fun at either the Panicuason Hot Springs Resort, Haciendas de Naga or Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC), all three just 30 minutes from downtown Naga.
Day 1 (morning)
After a hearty breakfast, guests can set out to explore Naga’s rich culture and history, starting off with the Plaza de Nueva Caceres monument, a rendition of the arrival and departure of the Spaniards in Bicol.
A short walking tour of Centro Naga introduces guests to famous landmarks in the city like Plaza Rizal and Plaza Quince Martires, which commemorates the bravery of the 15 Bicolano martyrs during the Revolutionary War against Spain.
Guests will also see Plaza Barlin, built to honor the first Filipino bishop, Bishop Jorge Barlin, who was an alumnus of the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary, and the adjacent old site of the Cuartel de Guarda Civil.
They will then be brought to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral, the largest church in the region; and the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary, the oldest religious institution in the country. The Seminary also houses the Archaeological Museum, which features rare pre-colonial burial jars and artifacts, and the Ecclesiastical Museum, which features religious vessels, ornate church altars, and the memorabilia of Bishop Barlin and national hero Jose Ma. Panganiban.
The Cathedral complex also boasts of the Porta Mariae, a triumphal arch built to celebrate three centuries of devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia. Visitors will also glimpse the Archbishop’s residence and Universidad de Sta. Isabel, the first normal school in Southeast Asia. A short rolling tour of Ateneo de Naga University, which served as a Japanese garrison during World War II is also included before guests head to the original Peñafrancia Shrine and its majestic fresco depicting the Blessed Mary’s life and the adjacent Peñafrancia museum, dedicated to the history of the devotion to Ina.
Day 1 (afternoon)
After satisfying their gusto for hot and spicy Bicolano cuisine, guests continue their exploration of the city by visiting the Peñafrancia Basilica, which has housed the image of Ina since 1983. Given the title “Basilica Minore” by the Vatican, this impressive edifice boasts of large stained glass windows, the most prominent of which possibly the largest in the country.
Just a stone’s throw away from the Basilica is the resting place of Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, whose leadership example has been admired nationwide, and who served as mayor of Naga for almost two decades. After visiting these historic sites, guests can explore the Naga City People’s Mall, home to almost 2,000 different stalls, including those that offer local products and souvenir items like dried fish (new look, biti and abo), waterlily bags, paper and handmade beads, bracelets, and necklaces, pili products, and chocolate bars, to name a few. Guests can also try out kinalas, a spicy and flavorful local noodle dish with shredded meat from pork or beef head, and toasted siopao.
Guests can also choose from two resort destinations on the slopes of Mt. Isarog: Panicuason Hot Springs Resort or Haciendas de Naga, both offering diverse and exciting activities and complete facilities.(http://nagax.com/holiday/naga-city-tour-whole-day/)
